Toshiba denies the demise of HD-DVD… for the moment

Monday, February 18, 2008 9:40

In what has to be the weakest press release in recent history, Toshiba denied that any decision had been made yet regarding the future of HD-DVD.

“The media has reported that Toshiba will discontinue its HD-DVD business. Toshiba has not made any announcement concerning this,” the company said.

“Although Toshiba is currently assessing its business strategies, no decision has been made at this moment.”

We expect that all of the legal haggling and compensation models will be completed soon and that announcements from Paramount and Universal will follow shortly after Toshiba’s “official” exit.

As mentioned earlier, we’re also watching Microsoft, and Xbox, to see if the Redmond behemoth will be the very last consumer electronics supplier to switch to the Blu-Ray player.
