Patriot Perfection!
Friday, February 1, 2008 8:07As the big Superbowl game approaches, media outlets build to a frenzy attempting to write compelling prose to build interest.
Unfortunately, this can all be summed up by “Brady is a nice guy” and “the Giants will win.”
It seems that, outside of Las Vegas, many television and print media pundits are predicting the Giants to win in a close upset.
We do not. Our reasons follow.
- The Patriots are the better team. Better personnel at almost all positions.
- The Patriots are better coached. Any arguments here?
- The Patriots are proven and have a better record.
- The Patriots are motivated.
It seems that some people confuse the malaise that sets in on a team toward the end of the season as some type of flaw in the Patriot’s armor. The team that played New York at the end of the season is not the team that will show up this Sunday.
The Patriots began to lose steam when they won clinched a playoff spot (was this in September?), then they continued to win home field advantages, etc. By the time the last two games of the season rolled around, all they had to motivate them was “the perfect season.” We submit that this was more of a motivation for their opponents than the Pats.
When the game begins on Sunday, the real PATRIOTS will take the field. Fierce competitors, a precision offense, a tenatious defense, and all the rest and motivation that they need. Having played the Giants earlier, Belichek will now have a game plan that frustrates Coughlin’s every move. Eli Manning will not have a 30+ point day and he will suffer interceptions. Tom Brady will pick apart New York’s offense and Laurence Maroney will have a 100+ yard day.
The Patriots will clear 40 points and New York will be under 20. They will cover the spread.
We’re going with the Patriots beating the Giants 42-17 in Superbowl 42. It could be more.
Watch the game to see perfection. It will be a while before another team finishes 19-0.
